C4P Peace Observatory

Status: Active

Evidence for safer, more inclusive peace.

Our promise

Ethical evidence on children, youth and peace in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Primary users: Researchers, donors, policy-makers, practitioners

Purpose

The Peace Observatory is C4P’s evidence and learning hub. It brings together programme data, child- and youth-informed consultations, partner research and trusted public sources to show how conflict, displacement, violence and social tension affect children and young people – and what is working to build peace.

What it offers

  • Peace & Child-Wellbeing Dashboard

aggregated, anonymised indicators with reporting period, location level, method and limitations shown for every chart.

  • Research and policy library

C4P studies, learning briefs, policy papers and evaluations; filter by topic, country, year, age group and resource type.

  • Context briefs

short, conflict-sensitive country and thematic summaries drawing on verified external sources, with clear citation.

  • Child and youth perspectives

summaries of consultations from the Voice Studio – always aggregated, with no identifying information.

  • What works

a practice evidence base summarising peace-education, protection and participation approaches.

  • Data and methods centre

ethics, consent, data protection and methodology notes; a data request form for researchers.

Safeguards and quality standards

  • No identifiable data about children. Small-number suppression: do not display figures where small cell sizes could reveal individuals or communities.
  • Children and young people are never asked to collect information on armed groups, threats or incidents. The Observatory must not be used to gather intelligence or to map sensitive locations.
  • Ethical review and data-protection assessment before any new dataset is published; documented consent/assent for all participatory data.
  • Every figure carries source, reporting period, geography, method and an accountable owner. Distinguish C4P-generated data from third-party data.
